Services for Jon D. Martel, 53, of East Moline, will be 10 a.m. Saturday at St. Mary's Catholic Church, East Moline. Burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery, East Moline.

Visitation is 4 to 7 p.m. Friday at Van Hoe Funeral Home, East Moline, where a rosary will be recited at 6:30 p.m. Memorials may be made to the family.

Mr. Martel died Tuesday, Sept. 23, 2003, at the home of his son. He was born April 5, 1950, in Moline, the son of Lupe Duenos Martel. He married Miriam Gomez, April 11, 1970. She died May 11, 1997.

Mr. Martel had worked as an iron worker for Local Union 111. He loved to cook, trying all kinds of dishes that he would see on TV. He liked to play and watch sports. Jon would go fishing every chance he could. He rode his bike everywhere. He always had a garden.

Survivors are his son and daughter-in-law, Bryan and Laura Martel, Moline; mother, Lupe Martel, Mason City, Iowa; grandmother, Felicitas Martel, East Moline; sister and brother-in-law, Ruth and Raymond Hart, East Moline; brother, Max Martel, Rock Island; nephews, Dr. Matt Hart, Brett Hart and David Martel; many aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.
